Munchkin Mondays (or, What My Kids Are Reading)

For the inaugural Munchkin Mondays my daughter has selected:
Barbie and the Diamond Castle

Sam has recently discovered Barbie (sigh....) so we have read several of these little books.  It's just a phase, it's just a phase.......  For the record, I had nothing against Barbie (well, nothing much) until I realized a couple of these stories focused on shopping, boys and fashion.  To quote Seinfeld, "Not that there's anything wrong with that", but I wasn't ready for my 5 y/o to move beyond Ladybug Girl and Berenstain Bears.  Ah well, she loves to read, and that's what's important!

Mommy:  What do you like about this book?
Sam:  I like these princesses and the dog is cute.
Mommy:  Why do you like Alexa and Liana?
Sam:  Because they're pretty and not mean.  Especially not mean.
Mommy:  Was it scary when Lydia was being mean and using magic against Alexa and Liana?
Sam:  Uh-huh. It was just weird.
Mommy:  What would you have done if you were Aleza or Liana?
Sami:  I would grab a knife and chop off Lydia's head.  (Can you tell she has an 8 y/o brother?)
Mommy:  That's terrible - why would you say that?
Sami:  Because she's so mean.  I guess I could just throw her in a volcano.

And there you have it - the reasons why Barbie and The Diamond Castle is a great book!
