Trouble in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law Series) by Jana DeLeon

Back of the Book Blurb:  Scientist Maryse Robicheaux thought that a lot of her problems had gone away with her mother-in-law’s death. The woman was rude, pushy, manipulative and used her considerable wealth to run herd over the entire town of Mudbug, Louisiana.

Unfortunately, death doesn’t slow down Helena one bit.

DEA Agent Luc LeJeune is wondering what his undercover assignment investigating the sexy scientist has gotten him into – especially as it seems someone wants her dead. Keeping his secrets while protecting Maryse proves to be easier than fighting his attraction for the brainy beauty.

Review:  If you like steamy, sexy romance mixed up with wacky adventure, strong, smart heroines, attempted murder and obnoxious ghosts, you will love Jana DeLeon.  In this charmingly original and memorable book, we meet the citizens of Mudbug, Louisiana, a small town on the bayou that is home to Maryse Robicheaux, her not-dearly-departed mother-in-law, and a whole lot of stuff going on.  What I love about this author is that she has respect for her characters - they are often eccentric and unique, but never too far off the wall, where they become stereotypes.  As someone who grew up in a tiny town, I feel right at home in Mudbug and it really enhances the story for me as a reader.
DeLeon's characters are always well-developed and believable as well.  Maryse is a botanist looking for a cancer cure in her spare time, when she's not hunting down her dog of a husband to serve him with divorce papers, or being haunted by his mother, who was recently murdered.  She has become "an introvert not a hermit" but it is a fine distinction, and when Luc Lejeune arrives with his good looks, protective streak and super fine butt, Maryse suddenly starts to realize what she's been missing.  But her first order of business is to get rid of Helena, her dead mother-in-law, and to do that she needs to find out who among the many suspects actually murdered her.  Along the way Maryse becomes the target of a killer, inherits a huge nature preserve, rediscovers lust, and tries to stay alive.
Written with DeLeon's trademark confidence, fast pace, genuine humor, solid plots and steamy budding romance, this is one enjoyable book.  And right now it's available for just $1 for the e-version at most major retailers!!!!
